If I was asked to apply the label "The Man" to any West Ham player, Clyde Best would be a shoe-in (or shoo-in, if you herd sheep as a living).
Saw him his whole career at West Ham. He just was, full stop.

Scored a diving header about a foot off the ground against Crystal Palace in 1969 from a long, sliced right foot Lampard pass .
He can't have been at West Ham very long when he scored that goal.

Clyde Best was a bit before my era, someone give me a comparison to how good he was, I'm taking it he's better than a lot of the dross we've had up front apart from the usual suspects like Mcavennie, cottee, Cross

Hitting that cross bar from the 40 yards or was it the half way line or was it opposition half or even goal end?
more likely from 30 years but as a small kid being behind the goal seeing & feeling the cross bar shake he appeared far away .
afterwards...
